From the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) you can park and use your car in all 50 states, but that isn’t the case in New York City.
That’s because of its stringent parking laws.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of those laws.
Here’s how to find out if you’re eligible to park and park on the street or in a designated parking space.
The state’s parking laws require all vehicles parked in a city-owned parking garage or lot to be parked for at least 20 minutes.
That includes the time that your vehicle is parked, which can vary from 30 minutes to an hour.
Parking violations can result in a $100 fine and/or a ticket, depending on the offense.
To find out whether you can legally park and for how long, NJDOT recommends that you visit your local Department of Motor Vehicles office or check with the City of New York’s Parking Enforcement Division.

Here are a few facts to keep in mind when choosing a place to park:In the United States, all vehicles must be parked in designated spaces.
NJDOTS parking regulations only apply to public streets.
You cannot park in a garage, lot or on the side of the road.
If there is a private parking lot or garage, you are allowed to park in that.
In New York, you can also park on any open parking space in a building that has an access road.
This is typically designated for public use, such as the entrances to courthouses or city-run public schools.
If the building is not a city owned building, you may be allowed to use the space.
You must follow the rules set out by your state.
In New York State, the rules are more stringent than in other states.
NJ DOT is a separate entity from the Department of New Jersey Parks, Recreation and Environmental Services, and is responsible for enforcing its parking regulations.
